Make up guidance

Would love to have some specific make up guidance before Saturday's dress rehearsal. A basic picture to work off of would be great along with some tips and tricks.

Sun Oct 27th

I am carpooling today with Cindy Nelson.  We need to leave at 5 pm so she can return home for a client appt, and then will be returning at 8 pm for Master of the House.  We are not on stage for The Wedding scene.

Anne Novotny
Hello

I am wondering about October 30th.  I know Adeline already asked about it, but I didn't see an answer any where.
The original schedule says  Act 1 'vocalists' the new one says 'leads only'.

I don't want to miss if I'm supposed to be there.  I'm not a lead, but I am a 'vocalist'.

Thank you, Susan

The power of Les Mis..a quick and true story

This afternoon I was practicing my music in what I thought was a fairly private place.  As I practiced I felt a presence and noticed there was an elderly gentleman sitting on a bench not too far away. I was a little embarrassed and annoyed, but continued.  Suddenly, this man was beside me with tears in his eyes asking how I came to be singing this particular music at this particular moment. I briefly explained about the show I was rehearsing for.  This man then wept and told me how special this music was to him. It was a passion he shared with his wife.  He told me he had just left her bedside for a few minutes of respite and that she was dying, leaving this mortal plane within a day or so. He said he couldn't believe it when he heard his beloved music and that I had given him a gift.  I then held this stranger while he cried.  After a bit he thanked me and went back to sit by his wife's bedside for perhaps the last time in their long life together.
Until today I don't think I truly understood the power of this story we are telling and how we will touch people in ways we have yet to imagine.

I'll need a ride to any rehearsals on Nov. 5 through 9.

Dear Fellow "Les Mis" Cast Members,

I'll need a ride to any rehearsals on Nov. 5 through Nov. 9.

I'll be checking to see which rehearsals I'll have to be at during those days, and, once I know, I'll be able to make arrangements with a person/ persons who will be able to take me to and from the rehearsals; I'm prepared to compensate my ride for gas money.

Thanks.
:)

Somthing Fun

The Web is . . . almost complete

I wish we all had the time to read these character biographies, diaries, letters and more...
The village has formed a true "web" amongst each other - a result I hadn't expected - but a result YOU have created as a group conscience.  A web that is strengthening our show.

WITNESS:
"I was very moved by Enjolras' passion in the café and have a motherly affection for him.  I've known him since he was but a small child."
"My father was an alcoholic who began molesting me when I was young.  This is how I learned to please men.  I only want to escape my pain."
"My abortion has caused my sickness, but I must work for income."
"I just want to be loved."
"I hate Fantine because she at least had a child.  My husband is out all night and comes home drunk.  I was not able to bear children.  It is rumored that my husband has."

45 and counting . . .  very moving work you guys have done.  Thank you for taking the plunge and being part of the web that connects us, gives us purpose in our scenes.

You have seven more days to join the group and turn one in.  Seven more!
 Hugs to all!

Cast Party

Given everyone's packed Christmas schedules, how would everyone feel about having the Les Miz cast party the Sunday following Christmas (Dec 29) instead of Dec 22 as currently scheduled? As it is our family is unable to attend the current date because of other holiday events and I've heard it is a challenging time for other cast members as well.

October 30 rehearsal

Is this rehearsal for everyone who has a solo in Act one? Just the main characters? Thanks for clarifying.

Body Robbers and Snatchers

Hello Beggar Fleas.
I have been noticing some confusion regarding the added body snatcher robbers that were added the other night to The Sewer scene.

This is the scene following the removal of the barricade in act 2.
This is not part of the Barricade scenes.
Also, noone will need an additional costume for this.  These are beggars picking over dead rebels in the fog and low light.  Throw on a shawl.
Love you- EBM

Props Oct 15

Hello All!
Many thanks to those that brought in some of the stuff I posted a few days ago. We have almost everything - yea!!
We need material that kids at the barricade can tear and roll into bandages. If you have something we can use please bring it is ASAP.
We still could use another wooden bucket and an old broom.
A small barrel for gun powder is also needed.
Laura, your prop mistress is doing a marvelous job of organizing props and is doing a lot of things at home as well - dying, painting, gluing, etc.  A round of applause!!!!
We will be using props more and more as we go along and get used to the rhythm of the show.
Thank you all for respecting the props and touching only what you are using!

Wednesday October 23 Vocal schedule

Hi all! Great job today with the orchestra. If you raise your right hand and promise to review your lyrics, diction and entrances.....I will give you Wednesday  night off. Deal? Hands up....

See another version of yourself onstage !!

Do you want to see, hear, feel another community theater production of Les Mis?  See what our "sister theater" in Traverse City, Michigan is doing onstage with Les Mis.   They opened this weekend.  We've all seen "professional" DVDs - now check out what another theater similar to IT! has been up to.  It's well worth a 5-minute peek!

Check out these two links below sent to us this weekend by Old Town Playhouse:

(The first one is clips from every number in the show.  Fast forward to the songs you wish to see.  The 2nd one is stills taken during performance.)

Looking for props - can you help??

Hello All!
Laura Bonham and I spent some time today organizing the props we have on shelves and on tables in the green room by the entrance to backstage. Please do not move anything so as not to cause your prop people's heads to explode.
We are still looking for a few things. If you have something on the list below and would like to let us borrow it, please bring it in starting this weekend. Many thanks in advance!!!
Adeline

farm hand tools - rakes, hoes, pitchforks, etc. preferably looking worn/used
carpet bag - this is an old version of the suitcase
old spectacles - the ones in the costume room are too modern and we need a couple of pairs
wooden bucket - we use this in quite a few scenes and would like to have more than one bucket
old broom - also used in more than one scene, needs to not look modern
hurricane lamp - this is an oil lamp of a certain type
fake canary - we need a little fake canary to go into Madam Thenardier's meat grinder

Advertising Poster

We have posters for posting to advertise the show.
Check the Production Blog "Poster" tab to download your own copy!

Please start thinking of employers, grandmas, doctors, dentists, attorneys, etc. that you are going t personally invite to get a ticket to the Gala Premier on November 23rd.  Most of the tickets will certainly be sold by personal invitation!

Wednesday vocal rehearsal

Hi! We will be running Act 2 vocals on Wednesday. We are at the point where consistent attendance is critical. Thanks!

Saturday, October 5, 2013

I'm sorry to say I'm unable to be there today. I'd hoped to do it all, but I'm running a slight fever and feel I'd better not take a chance.

Thursday 10/10/13 STAGE MANAGERS DAY!   Be nice to DAN SNOW!

The Overture…

This year, for one day, all over the UK, The Stage Management Association would like the spot light to pan off into the wings and pick up those backstage ninjas, stage managers. The day? 10th October, of course, because we think all stage managers deserve 10/10!
Image
10th October 2013 is Stage Management Day (#StageMgrs13) and we want to tell the world a little bit more about the work stage managers do and rejoice in and celebrate the ingenious and creative ways in which they go about it. Who better to organise this than stage managers themselves? Logistical experts and outstanding communicators, with artistic flair to boot! Just think how often you’ve heard the question “But what is it you actually do?…” Well, now is your chance to answer that question and share the answer with the world, having a bit of fun at the same time…
Remember when Rock of Ages shared this YouTube video of the DSM calling a segment of the show?

We loved it and we know other stage managers and theatre fans loved it, too. Could you get permission to do something similar? Could you film a video diary of some of your department’s work? A day in the life of…? How about a time lapse video of a fit up or a reset, or even of making a prop? We want to focus on stage managers in all types of theatre, whether large scale or fringe. It’s all interesting. Maybe you just want to film something a bit silly? That’s fine, too. Let’s face it, much of stage management centres around having a terrific sense of humour!
Does your show have a Twitter feed? Would they allow a stage management #TwitterTakeover for the day? Or even the week? Sometimes the things which seem ordinary to us are intriguing for people who don’t work in theatre. Share those things. Who are the performers in your company who tweet? Would they do Twitter shout outs for the stage management team? We know they love and respect you… let’s make #StageMgrs13 the day when everyone puts it into words and photos.
What fun events can you think up for that week? If you’re in the West End, there are so many neighbouring teams around that you could challenge one another to… a tug of war in between shows? Or something much more imaginative, and risk assessed to high heaven, than our idea. Get your thinking caps on! Maybe you can do something to raise a little money for charity? The Theatrical Guild and The Actors’ Benevolent Fund are the ones supporting stage managers in times of need. We want drama schools to get involved, too. What could you students do? Could you showcase your work? Or maybe challenge the actors to a mark out? A scene change contest, even? Just make sure they don’t win – we’ve got standards to live up to!
How about a bit of a role reversal? Obviously we don’t want to encourage anarchy, but perhaps this is the one night when it would be nice for the stage management team, or indeed the whole backstage team, to join the cast for the curtain call? We understand some stage managers might actually pass out at the thought of this, so how about stage managers choose the music for warm up? Or your company manager give permission for one of the cast to call the half or read out the running times? Perhaps they can do the shout check with you or a bit of well supervised prop maintenance?
Will you be in rehearsals in that week? Perhaps this is the day that your director will make your tea, and certainly we think that someone else should help out with the washing up that day. For those with matinees , maybe producers can pop down for a brew and a chat with the department they might not see that often. If they bring cake, and we have certainly suggested to them that they do, all the better!
Does your theatre have an education department? We’d love to see them throwing the focus onto stage management that week. This is also the perfect week for the local paper to run a “Behind the Scenes…” feature. How about a post show Q and A with the stage management team one night? This would be really popular with the audience on a busy technical show. If you’re shy, get one of your cast to host it and all you have to do is answer the questions to which you, hopefully, know all the answers!
In February The Stage Management Association held the first ever Stage Management Census and 767 of you responded. If 767 of you got involved with Stage Management Day that would make 10th October 2013 a fantastic celebration of all that we do.
We’ll be using this blog to share the many ideas we’re sure stage managers are going to come up with, so we need you to get planning and to let us know what you get up to.
- Tweet us your photos, your videos, your Vine clips. You can tweet us at @SMAssoc and/or tweet with the hashtag #StageMgrs13. If you’re not on Twitter, then join the Friends of the SMA group on Facebook or just email us instead at: admin@stagemanagementassociation.co.uk
- Upload photos and videos to our new Flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/stagemanagementassociation/
- Upload videos to Youtube and let us know that they’re there.
- If you have a blog, why not write something about your job or what stage management means to you?

Come on, people. There are just under 8 weeks to go. We can put on large scale musicals in half that time!

DOes anyone know if Sunday's dance rehearsal is happening or not?  It says as announced . . . trying to make weekend plans.  THANKS

No vocal tonight, Oct. 3

Good Morning. The run through of much of the show went well the past two nights, though last night's attendance was quite scant. I am canceling tonight's rehearsal to give you some vocal and physical rest. Keep practicing! We are going to have a great show!!

Costume Fittings Sat and Sun This weekend!

This Saturday and Sunday I would like to continue with more costume fittings.  This is a monumental task and I know some of you have not seen me yet.  No worries it will all get done eventually! My team and I have been working diligently behind the scenes to complete the tasks at hand.  The purpose of these fittings is to see what is missing so that I can go find it!  Please bring any items you have taken home to alter with you if you are in these groups!

Saturday 10/5/13

11-12    Students / Student helpers - Boys & Men
12-1      Student Helpers - Girls/Women
1-2        Children in beggars chorus

2 pm rehearsal starts and I will continue to pull people as time allows.

Sunday 10/6/13

Please contact me to choose one of these times or sign up on Saturday!

12-1    10 Factory women
1-2      10 Factory women

2 pm  rehearsal starts and I will continue to pull people as time allows.

Thank you!

P.S.  Thank You, Thank You, Thank You to my sewing team and Helpers!  Regina Drennan, Carol Cramor, Sue Felton, Holly Silvestrin, Khol Chaken, Lindsey Thomas, David Thomas, Jason Bermudes, Claudia Bennett, Lucinda Bjork, Jennifer Jackson and all the moms who have taken something home to help out! I'm sure I have forgotten people! Your help is greatly appreciated and NEEDED!!! LOL  IT TAKES A VILLAGE!
